Candice Ann Alder (Moms), daughter, sister, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on July 11, 2020, at the age of 71, surrounded by loved ones after a long and courageous battle with COPD and Pulmonary Fibrosis. Moms was born on May 9, 1949, to Lowren M. Dana and Peggy Ann Bruns in Salt Lake City, Utah. Moms graduated from Jordan High school in 1967.

Moms married Steven Nielsen Sr. in July 1970, and had two sons Steven and Jason. She then divorced and re-married the love of her life, David L. Alder, in September 1981. Together they had a son Derek L. Alder, and joined siblings David Steven Alder, Julie Alder Redding and Jacob Andrews.

Moms was a unique beauty that welcomed and loved all that came into her world and never judged anyone. Those that knew her would always have a home if they ever needed one. She loved camping, fishing, family gatherings, watching movies, baking cookies and making pizza burgers for her children. Her zucchini cookies were our favorite! Moms loved and created many memories for all of us that we will never forget. Nothing was more important to her than family and she proved that day in and day out, especially with the 100th “I love you” of the day. Moms had a beautiful personality and sense of humor. She loved to hear and tell jokes and play practical jokes on the people she knew.

Moms greatest joy were her grandchildren. She loved holding them, spoiling them, and just hanging out but her favorite were all the hugs. She would spend hours with her grandkids doing puzzles and playing games. Some of our fondest memories with her were watching shows together, coloring, Snowbird, the special necklaces and treats, and shopping.

Moms concluded her life at the Woodland Park Care Center, where she was cared for by wonderful staff, nurses, and her family. Thank you to all those at Woodland Park and Harmony Hills for taking such wonderful care of our moms.

We love you and miss you with all our hearts but couldn’t be happier that you are now with David watching over us. He will be there waiting for you with open arms, a red button-down shirt and that smile he always had for you.

Moms is survived by her children: Steven N. Nielsen Jr, Jason G. Nielsen (Nicole), Derek L. Alder (Carl), David Steven Alder (Linda), Julie A. Redding (Chris), Jacob R. Andrews (Kelli), and Dylan Petersen; grandchildren Isabella Nielsen, Hannah Nielsen, Ethan Nielsen, Abigail Nielsen, Scarlett Nielsen, Brittany Dunsworth (Eric), Zaden Redding, Hailey Kraus, Kyle Kraus, Alysa Andrews, and Nina Andrews; great grandchild Elaina Dunsworth; siblings Kriston Williams-Hess (Scott), and Mindin Hellem (Venny).

Preceded in death by spouse, David L. Alder; parents Lowren and Peggy; and former husband Steven Nielsen Sr.

Moms, enjoy the serenity and time with our loved ones that are no longer here and make sure they know how much we still miss them. We ALL love you! Thank you for the beautiful life you lived. May we continue to make you proud and smile from up above. Rest in peace moms, you’ve earned it!

A gathering for family and friends will be held July 29, 2020 from 10:00 – 11:00 AM with a celebration of life to follow, all at Memorial Redwood Mortuary, 6500 South Redwood Road, West Jordan, UT, 84123.
