Mrs. Thelma Reiter Brinkley, age 93, of La Grange, MO died Sunday, June 10, 2007 at Marymount Hospital in Garfield Heights, OH.

She was born July 7, 1913 in Canton, MO, a daughter of J. Fred Reiter and Alberta Kator Reiter. She married Hubert L. Brinkley on April 5, 1935 in Canton, MO. He died December 14, 1987.

Mrs. Brinkley was an active member of the United Methodist Church in La Grange where she taught Bible studies. She had been a member of Sweet Adelines and had served on the County Health Board. She had been active in politics and currently was historian of the City of La Grange. Mrs, Brinkley was an accomplished needle worker and quilted weekly at the church. In retirement she began painting in oils and continued until her eyesight failed. She was a beloved librarian in La Grange who found true joy in helping others discover the riches of the library. Upon retirement she was presented the keys of the city.

Survivors include two sons: Donald R. Brinkley (wife, Carolyn S. Brinkley) of Shaker Heights, OH and J. Michael Brinkley of Campbell, CA., six grandchildren: Laura Brinkley Loftus of Natick, MA, Christine Brinkley Harmon of Maplewood, NJ, Douglas R. Brinkley of Shaker Heights, OH, David R. Brinkley of Washington DC, Matthew D. Brinkley of Portland OR and Daniel J. Brinkley of San Francisco, CA, and nine great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 19, 2007 at 10:00 am in Davis Funeral Home with Dr. William Fox and Rev. Michael Mann officiating. Burial will be in Dover Cemetery near La Grange. Visitation will be Monday, June 18, 2007 from 5:00 until 8:00 at the Davis Funeral Home in La Grange.

The family suggests memorials be made to United Methodist Church, La Grange Library, or the Hubert and Thelma and Ruby I. Brinkley Endowed Scholarship.
