Memorial services were conducted Friday, July 18, 1986, at 3 p.m. from Oliver Chapel for Robert Luther Varner, 96, of Winona, eldest member of Moore Memorial United Methodist Church.
Varner died Thursday, July 17, at Tyler Holmes Memorial Hospital after a brief illness. He was an Attala County native and a retired section foreman for the Columbus & Greenville Railway.
He was a member of Winona Masonic Lodge, the Shrine Club, a former Mayor of Winona and a member of the Board of Housing Authority.
Services were preached by the Rev. Bryan T. Scarbrough, assisted by Dr. James R. Williams. Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery with Masonic Rites.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Lois Kathryn Sauer of Houston, Texas.
Pallbearers were Billy Carpenter, Johnny Peacock, Johnny Carlton, Billy Blakely, Noel William and Joe Applewhite.
