Obituary for Shirley Moore
Shirley Moore, 80, of Oskaloosa passed away Saturday, July 4, 2020, at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines.
Shirley Deon Moore, daughter of Myrl and Reva (Waltman) Moore, was born June 27, 1940, in Wright, Iowa. She lived in Wright until age 14 when the family moved to Oskaloosa. She was a 1958 graduate of Oskaloosa High School.
Through the years, Shirley worked part-time jobs at various places, including the Oskaloosa Herald and Maid-Rite. She enjoyed many years of volunteering for The Salvation Army with her mother. Shirley was a member of Grace Lutheran Church since 1963 and loved attending worship services and church activities. Shirley lived at Shady Lodge from 1979 – October 2009 when she moved to Homestead.
Shirley’s family includes two sisters, Beverly Downard of Waukee, IA, and Bonnie Hait of Olathe, KS; two brothers, Robert (Leta) Moore of Knoxville, IA and Dwight (Carol) Moore of Lansing, MI; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by two sisters: Dorothy Hait and Betty Hicks, and six bothers, Max, Harley, Frank, Myrl Jr., and Donald and Richard in infancy.
Funeral services for Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, July 8, 2020, at Langkamp Funeral Chapel with Rev. Roger Neuman of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Burial will be in Wymore Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., Tuesday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions can be made to Grace Lutheran Church. According to the rules put in place by the Iowa Department of Public Health, proper social distancing and reasonable personal protective equipment is advised for attending this public event.
