My sister, Deb Goodwin passed from this earth, July 5, 2020 at her home in Nappanee, Indiana.

Debbie was born on February 4, 1963 in Indianapolis at the corner of 16th & Sherman Drive on the way to Community Hospital. She was in an all fire hurry to get here, and our father had to assume the catcher position for her extremely quick arrival.

Debbie loved to read more than anything, and had an imagination that absolutely would never quit. She was a devoted believer in our heavenly father, and knew where she would spend her final reward.

She loved music and was for a time, a disc jockey on an internet radio show for disabled people "Circle of Friends Radio", she was known as "Silly", she gained many friends there that stayed with her for the rest of her life. Her theme song when she came online for the radio station:

As a child, Debbie was vibrant and colorful, though she was extremely clumsy and it was not until she was about 13 that she was diagnosed with Charcot-Marie-Tooth-Disease, a hereditary disease that she inherited from our mother. She was able to ride a bike but walking was not her strong suit, she fell down a lot. Later in life, she also developed other conditions which all led to a fall in 2001 where she broke her back, leaving her in a wheelchair for the remainder of her life, until finally condemning her to live out her days bed ridden and unable to get around at all on her own.

Debbie leaves behind a husband, her companion and soul mate for 27 years, Brian George, a son, John Leonard Goodwin-George; one step-daughter; one brother, Robert Goodwin of Lakeland, Florida; one sister, Teresa Goodwin-Skaggs, of Indianapolis, Indiana; three sister-in-laws, Beverly Goodwin, Lisa Haney and Renae Davis, as well as 12 nieces and nephews. She also leaves her best friend, Rainey Ofiero, her dearest and loyal friend of 20 years whom had shared all of her life events and stood by her through everything since the day that they met. Rainey meant the world to Debbie, and was more like a sister (from another mother).

Debbie was blessed with a wonderful friend and sister, Antanyia "Tanya" Griffis, as was our father, and a God son Terry Alton (TJ) Griffis, Jr. Tanya and Debbie met each other when Debbie brought her and her son, fresh baked cookies and welcomed her to the neighborhood. A relationship bloomed. Debbie helped raise TJ, and TJ and Johnny (Debbie's son) were instant best friends, for life. TJ still considers Debbie his second Mom. This was just how my sister was, she loved everyone, but especially Tanya and TJ.

We will try to plan a memorial service for Debbie in Indianapolis in August. We will let everyone know where and when.

At Debbie's request, her body will be cremated and spread over the Blue Ridge Mountains in Tennessee and the ocean in Florida.

Written by our nephew, Matthew Goodwin

No matter how prepared we think we are, it never gets any easier to say goodbye to a loved one. A couple of weeks ago my parents, my brother and I had the privilege to say our goodbyes to my Aunt Debbie. I will always remember the moment where we sang to her. I couldnt get through tbe hymn "because he lives" for it also my Grampas favorite. The next day I sang my favorite hymn "It is well".
I enjoyed that and I know she did as well. It was a powerful moment to minister to a family member. She also taught me a lesson on love.

This morning I wake up to the news that my Aunt Debbie has entered the gates of Heaven. I rejoice because the first time in years, she is able to walk in her brand new body. She is able to run to see her Daddy, her Mom and many other people. No more pain or sickness or sorrow. She is able to worship at the feet of Jesus. She has met her creator, her Lord, her Jesus. Man what a homecoming! At the end of the day I am thankful for the promise that we have. I will see her again.

This doesn't make it any easier. I will miss her more and more everyday. I miss the laughter, her smile, her love, and her joy. I can't help but smile as these memories come flooding back. Please pray for my family. My Dad and my Aunt Teresa. Then my Uncle Brian and cousin Johnny. Debbie was a Wife, Mother, Sister, and an Aunt. She was loved by many and will be missed by many. We love you Aunt Debbie. We will see you soon.
