Alice "Jean" McGurn, who was named the "healthiest baby in Kansas City" when she entered this world on New Year's Eve in 1925, left it on Saturday, January 22, at the age of 86. She was a lifelong resident of our fair city, attending Blessed Sacrament Grade School, Bishop Ward High School and St. Mary's College in Leavenworth.

In later years, she would go on to teach at Ward High School and to become a longstanding member and Eucharistic Minister at Christ the King Parish. Jean was married for 53 wonderful years to Bob McGurn, who passed before her in 2002. Together they raised seven children, including Bob Jr., who passed away in 2009.

Jean was survived by her two daughters, Anita McSorley and Theresa Lorsbach, her husband, their four sons and their wives. Jean and Bob were blessed with 15 beautiful grandchildren over the years, who will miss her tremendously.

"Jean will be remembered as a teacher, a mother, a grandmother, a friend and much more, but most of all as an unwavering example of a truly Christian woman. The patience, generosity, sacrifice and poise she showed for decades shines on today in the lives of her students and her children, and, in particular, in her many wonderful grandchildren. Jean brought nothing but grace into this world from her first moments to her last. With her passing, the earth grows a little dimmer and the heavens a good deal brighter."

The family received friends on Wednesday evening at Mary Butler Meyers Funeral Home in Kansas City, Kansas, where the Rosary was prayed later that night. A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday morning at Christ the King Catholic Church in Kansas City, Kansas. Burial followed in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
