Graveside services for Maj. Pearson A. Beck (USA-Ret.), 71, of 604 Hammond St., Newport News, who died Tuesday in Kecoughtan Veterans Hospital after a short illness, will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday in Shackelford's Chapel Methodist Church in Plainview.
A native of Mahoney City, Pa., Major Beck had been a Peninsula resident for the past 10 years. He was retired from the Army after 23 years of service and was a member of Bauex Masonic Lodge in Schuylkill Haven, Pa. A veteran of World War I and II, he belonged to Braxton-Perkins Post 25, American Legion.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Cordelia Howard Beck; son, P. Howard Beck of Fairfax; brother, Lester Beck of Hemmelston, Pa.; and two sisters, Mrs. Mattie Werner and Mrs. Olive Kline, both of Reading, Pa.
The body will remain at Peninsula Funeral Home until 9 a.m. Thursday.
