Fannie Neil immigrated from Ireland in the company of her parents, John and Mary Holmes, on 28 July 1863 on the Thornton sailing from Liverpool, England to New York City. Her father died during the passage and was buried at sea. Her mother, Mary, died five months later. Frances lived with an uncle in Pittsburgh until her marriage to Andrew.

Her year of birth cannot be established with any accuracy as a different birth year is indicated in the census information and in her obituary. I am using the year that coincides with the age listed on the family's passage from England to the United States.

Family history says that Fannie was either a dressmaker or a lacemaker.

Fannie and Andrew Neil of Sorbie, Wigtown, Scotland, were married on 19 Sep 1865--the first of the settlers in Amber Township, Mason County, Michigan to marry. Fannie and Andrew were the parents of 11 children--one of whom died shortly after birth and three others who died within days of each other during an outbreak of diptheria in April, 1894.

She is remembered as being a kind person by her grandchildren.

In addition to the children listed below, Andrew and Fannie had another son named Andrew J. Andrew J. Neil was born in 1866 and died 3 November 1933 in Tuolumne, California. He was married on 16 November 1903 to Ada Mullen Repvogle.
