A brickmason by occupation, he was a member of the Rossville Church of the Brethren. He had been a Sunday school teacher and deacon for 50 years and had taught the International Sunday school lessons every Sunday for 13 years over radio station WASK at Lafayette. He was a member of the Beard band.
