Funeral services for Mrs Dorothy Akin will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, January 5, 2009 at the Chapel of Hixson Brothers in Jena with Brother Ken Campbell and Joey Paul officiating. Interment will follow in the Chalk Hill Cemetery under the direction of Hixson Brothers Funeral Home of Jena.
Mrs. Akin, 87 was born February 8, 1921 and passed from this life January 3, 2009 in the LaSalle General Hospital in Jena.
She was an executive secretary for the federal government.
She is survived by one daughter, Myra Huffman and husband Roger of Jena; one son, Frank Akin and wife Kay of Kingston, Oklahoma; three sisters, Myrtle Hasemann of Abbeville, marie Evans of Parhams and Golden Moser of Forth Worth, Texas; one brother, Francis E Valentine of Pineville; four grandchildren, Frank Akin, Jr. and wife Connie of Hugo, Oklahoma, Cheryl Akin of Durant, Oklahoma, Mandy Sandifer and husband Jeff, and Becky Robertson and husband Trey; five great-grandchildren, Daniel and Adam Akin, Kyle Robertson, Kaleb Robertson and Allison Sandifer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Aken, parents Leonard and Lizzie Valentine.
Pallbearers were Frank Akin, Jr., Anthony Huffman, Trey Robertson and Son Kyle Robertson, Jeff Sandifer, Roger Huffman, Jamie Pritchard.
Friends may call on the Akin family at Hixson Brothers Sunday, January 4, 2009 at 4 p.m.
