In Oklahoma he worked as a servant until he got his farm. He farmed there for a number of years, both in Cold Springs, Oklahoma area as well as other areas of Oklahoma.
After he moved to Arizona he was a furniture maker. He was painting the Apache Hotel in Phoenix, Arizona when he became ill and had to be taken St. Joseph's hospital.He had a ruptured bleeding ulcer that required surgery he later died from complications of that surgery.

"Alex" was my Grandfather and was married to Lula Irvin Penn. They were some of the first documented couples to be married in the Oklahoma Territory.
