September 27, 1935 - June 28, 2020

On Sunday, the 28th of June, 2020, Mary Lou Scribner, loving wife, grandmother and great-grandmother, passed away at the age of 84.

Mary Lou was born on September 27, 1935, in Seymour, TX. She married Leroy Scribner on December 25, 1951, and they immediately began their family with the addition of four boys. Leroy tragically lost his life in a work-related accident in October of 1957, leaving Mary Lou with four young boys, ages 9 months through 4 years in age. Mary Lou was a wonderful mother who raised those boys, and never stopped loving Leroy. Many times, she sat in the bleachers as her boys played sports and looked forward to one son on a field and looked backward to another on another field.

Mary Lou was a devoted Christian & a member of the First Baptist Church of Seymour Texas for 70+ years.

She had a passion for taking care of others and worked most of her life at the Seymour Hospital. During that time and even after, she took care of several elderly in their homes. When it was time for her to leave Seymour and take up residence at Farmersville Health and Rehab, Farmersville, Texas near her son, Jeff; she still felt it her duty, while she was able, to take compassionate care of those living at the facility who could not take care of themselves.

Mary Lou was preceded in death by her father, I . B. Lewallen and her mother, Hazel Lewallen; her husband, Leroy Scribner; and her granddaughter, Sharon Scribner.

She is survived by her brother and two sisters; John Lewallen and wife Elaine of Holliday, Betty Davis of Bridgeport and Dora Davis of Nederland; her children, Roy and Dewayne of Odessa; Richard and wife Donna of Jacksonville, Arkansas; and Jeff and wife Jerri of Lavon, Texas. Mary Lou also leaves behind five granddaughters, Lisa, Robyn, Gina, Lacy and Brandy, and six great-grandchildren, Will, Janice, Dakota, Devynn, Hayden and Addison and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June, 30, 2020, and the funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st, 2020, at the First Baptist Church at 10:00 a.m. Burial will be in the Riverview Cemetery under the direction of Archer Funeral Home.
