Mrs. Emma I. Guthrie Dies At Age Of 82 Years
Mrs. Emma I. Guthrie, 82, native and lifelong resident of Butler township, DeKalb county, and wife of Harvey Guthrie, died at 10:55 a.m. Tuesday in the Dickerhoof Rest home in Butler. Mrs. Guthrie died of complications following an illness that extended over the past five years.
The body was removed to the Gerig, funeral home in Auburn where it will remain until it is taken at noon Friday to the Emanuel Lutheran church in LaOtto to lie in state until final rites are conducted at 2 p.m. Officiating at the services will be the Rev. O. B. Noren, pastor of the church and former pastor of the St. Mark's Lutheran church in Auburn. Burial will follow in Cedar Chapel cemetery southwest of Auburn.
Mrs. Guthrie was a grandmother of Roger L. Kain of 716 East Seventh street, Auburn.
She was born in Butler township, Rt. 1, LaOtto, March 15, 1877, daughter of Joseph and Mary Ann Simons. In a ceremony performed Oct. 22, 1899 at Albion, she was married to Harvey Guthrie who survives.
Surviving, besides the husband and the grandson in Auburn, are a daughter, Mrs. Gladys Lane of Chicago; a son, Robert Guthrie of Crooked lake, near Angola; a sister, Mrs. Jennie Barnes of Fort Wayne; five other grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mrs. Mabel Kain of Auburn, and a son, Reuel Guthrie of Springfield, Ill.
She was a member of the Emanuel Lutheran church at LaOtto.
