1927–2018

Aini Esther Jalava passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 26, 2018 at Roseview manor at the age of 90. Aini was the last surviving child of Onni and Hilja Ahtila.

Aini was born on November 29, 1927 in Shaunavon, Saskatchewan. She moved to Tarmola, Ontario with her family as a young girl. She met and married her husband Lauri in 1944; together they raised a family of 13 children.

Aini was a long-time member of Christ Lutheran Church and an active member of The Dorcas Ladies Society. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, and spending time with her family. As her children grew up she travelled to visit family.

Aini will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by her daughters, Margaret Lapierre, Violet (Sven) Hintikka, Shirley (Dennis) Kaukinen, Mamie (Donnie) Mado, Martha (Kevin) Thompson, Joyce Lyytinen (Dwight Listmayer), Susan (Pete) Peterson; her son Peter Jalava; and her sons-in-law Fred Wigmore and Arnold Rissanen. Also to remember her will be 34 grandchildren, 38 great grandchildren and 6 great-great grandchildren, as well as numerous nieces and nephews both in Canada and the US.

Aini was predeceased by her husband of 31 years, Lauri, and by her children, David, Edward, Walter, Laura Wigmore, Evelyn Rissanen, and two sons in infancy, as well as son-in-law's, Gaston Lapierre, and Brian Lyytinen, and daughter-in-law Lorraine Jalava.

Funeral Services for Aini will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 6, 2018 at Christ Lutheran Church, 47 Walkover Street, presided by her nephew Rev. Dan Repo. Interment will take place at Riverside Cemetery.

If friends so desire, donations may be made in Aini's memory to the Alzheimer Society or Christ Lutheran Church.

The family would like to thank the staff at Roseview Manor for their care and compassion during mom's brief stay there.
