GERARD LEHRKINDER, 88, passed away peacefully on Thursday, Aug. 23 at Bayside Manor Assisted Living in KEANSBURG . He was born in Jersey City and resided in Westwood, and Shadow Lake Village in Red Bank before moving to Bayside Manor two years ago. Mr. Lehrkinder retired from Du-Art Film Laboratory's in New York City and worked in the motion picture business for over 30 years. He served proudly in the United States Navy during World War II and participated in many famous battles in the South Pacific. Mr. Lehrkinder was an avid Yankees and NY Giants fan. He loved spending time with his three grandchildren.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 53 years, Mary Politis Lehrkinder; his son, Thomas and daughter-in-law, Lynne McGahan Lehrkinder of Little Silver; and his three grandchildren, Timothy, Ryan, and Patrick Lehrkinder. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the entire staff at Bayside Manor Assisted living, for treating Gerard like part of their own family. Their kindness and compassion cannot be measured.

Visitation will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. today at the John E. Day Funeral Home, 85 Riverside Ave., Red Bank. A Funeral Liturgy will take place on Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Roman Catholic Church in Red Bank. Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Middletown. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made in Gerard's name to St. Barnabas Hospice Center, 300 2nd Ave, Long Branch, NJ 07740 or The Wellness Community, 613 Hope Road, Victoria Commons, Eatontown, NJ 07724.
