Their five children born in Norway were Bertha (Hanson)(10/19/1855 to 7/10/1929), Joseph (10/19/1858 to 8/5/1938), Ommund Eiel (8/19/1861 to 8/3/1951), Tori (Tillie) (Dahl) (6/14/1865 to 11/10/1937), and Peder Herman (4/6/1867 to ?).
Eiel farmed successfully in Oftedal ("Big Valley"),but with a large family coming on, there would not be enough farmland to support them all, so the decision was made to move to America, where some friends had already gone. The move was made in 1868, right after the Border War and the American Civil War. They located in Coon Valley, Vernon County, Wisconsin, a few miles outside Viroqua. Three more children were born in America: Theoline Fredrikke (Gabrielson) (9/29/1869 to 12/11/1913), Theodore (4/6/1872 to 11/22/1947), and Elias who died in infancy.
Eiel built Grandview Farm at the corner of Highway Y and Irish Ridge Road, and was parish clerk in the West Coon Prairie Lutheran Church, and often preached and taught Bible classes. In his old age, Eiel lived with his son, Ommund, near Rice Lake, Wisconsin. He is buried alongside his faithful wife in the Bethel Lutheran Church Cemetery near their homestead. They are in the section across County Road B from the church. This, at the time, was the Norwegian Synod Lutheran Chruch, and the building is now gone. Bethel, at the time was called United Lutheran Church. This info from the 1896 plat.
