Frances Tubb was born in Kentucky about 1805, reportedly the daughter of George Tubb, born about 1772. We believe she is the sister of Nancy A. Tubb, who married in 1817 to Lewis Markham Abbott. Frances and Nancy’s brother, William W. Tubb, later moved to Shiloh, Union Parish, Louisiana. In 1880, Frances’ orphaned grandson lived in the Shiloh household of his cousin, William’s daughter, Nancy Tubb Moore.

Frances Tubb married on 13 December 1820 in Shelby County, Alabama to William McClanahan Abbott, a veteran of the Creek War of 1813-1814. William was the younger brother of Lewis M. Abbott, the husband of Frances’ sister.

Frances and William Abbott settled on his land in Perry County, Alabama and remained there until about 1852 or 1853. They were staunch Baptists, and their eldest son was graduated In 1851 from Howard College (now Samford University) with a degree in theology. He and his younger brother became Baptist ministers in the 1850s.

About 1852 or early 1853, Frances and William Abbott moved westward into west/central Mississippi. They obtained several tracts of land in northern Newton and southern Neshoba County. William Abbott died there in 1856, naming Frances as the executor of his estate. She lived there in 1860 with two of her sons, and she probably died there in the 1860s. After her death, her sons moved to Texas.
