Buford Rueben Arbogast, 92, passed away at his residence on Friday, April 17, 2020. A native of Ashtabula, Ohio, he was the son of the late Buford Oakley Arbogast and Alice Ann Cowles Arbogast. In addition to his parents, Rueben was preceded in death by the love of his life, Shirley Marie Lewis Arbogast, and his sister, Gwendolyn Joyce Walters. Rueben proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy serving aboard the USS Coral Sea aircraft carrier during the Korean War. He worked at Cadillac dealerships for over 35 years having served as sales manager for 22 of those years.

Rueben attended Palm Beach Jr. College in Florida and the General Motors Institute in Flint, Michigan. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with the Scottish Rite in Florida. Rueben was an elder of Newland Presbyterian Church, Newland, NC and a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church in Johnson City. He was an avid outdoorsman. Rueben enjoyed hunting, fishing boating, shooting, and camping. He was a member of the Unaka Rod and Gun Club and was an NRA Golden Eagle. Those left to cherish Rueben’s memory include his two daughters, Sherry Arbogast Fitch, Florida and Anne Arbogast Nolan and husband Timothy, Jonesborough; one son, Stanley L. Arbogast and wife Debbie of Florida; seven grandchildren, Jill Fitch Scarr, Randy Fitch, Michael Arbogast, Jennifer Arbogast, all of Florida, Amy Morton Schmidt and husband Ryan of Colorado, Christina Morton, Colorado and Susanne Morton Hernberg and husband Daniel, Texas and three great grandchildren, Emma Hernberg, Jonathan Hernberg and Matthew Schmidt.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be given to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America, 322 Eighth Ave., 7th fl., New York, NY 10001 or to The American Heart Association, 7272 Greenville Ave., Dallas, TX 75231. Due to the current COVID-19 health regulations set by the CDC of the limited number of people gathering, the family will have a Memorial service for Reuben at a later date at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2343 Knob Creek Rd., Johnson City, TN 37604.
