THANK YOU SO MUCH TO MY FRIEND, ROSETTA NEESON, FOR SPONSORING MY GRANDFATHER'S MEMORIAL!

Thank you for visiting my Grandpa.

My grandpa was a Michigan farmer. He was a family man, as most farmers are. My earliest memories are of my grandparents' farm where I lived with my mother after my father was killed in the war. We lived there in the big old farm house with the barn. It was a very short period in my life, but my memories are good. I think it shaped something inside me because I love the land. Farming is a hard life, and I don't think I ever had any idea how hard until I was much older. My grandpa was always very good to me. I think it helped that we were there because his only son had been killed in the war the year before I was born.

This is how I remember my grandpa. I'm pretty sure that I am on the left, and since I decided this, I'm not sure who is on the right. He used to give me a ride on the tractor when I was a little older. It was such fun, but tricky to stay on sometimes! In reality, I suppose it was very dangerous!

My mother said my first word was "tacter" (tractor).

Daughter: Alverna Maude Battenfield Smith

Siblings:

Kitty M. Acker
Maude E. Cunningham
Laura E. Lennon
