CARENCRO - A memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held at a later date for Valex Guilbeaux, age 89, who passed away Sunday, June 21, 2020 at his residence in Lafayette.

Interment will be in Evangeline Memorial Gardens in Carencro.

Mr. Guilbeaux was a native of Carencro and resident of Lafayette where he was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton Catholic Church. He retired from the City Bus of Lafayette with over forty years of service. A veteran of the military, Mr. Guilbeaux proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Anna Belle Guilbeaux; one son, Carl Guilbeaux; one daughter, Christine Ann Lemaire and her husband, Paul, all of Lafayette; three grandchildren, Justin Paul Lemaire and his wife, Sarah, Lt. Col. Ryan Paul Lemaire of the United States Airforce and his wife, Katie, and Kathryn Claire Cruthirds and her husband, Stephen; and seven great grandchildren, Charlotte Lemaire, Douglas Lemaire, Chloe Lemaire, Noelle Lemaire, Charlie Cruthirds, Alex Cruthirds, and Rosalie Cameron Cruthirds.

He was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Rita Faye Guilbeaux; his parents, Lucien Guilbeaux and the former Hermenia Prejean; three brothers, Jacques "Jack" Guilbeaux, Eugene Guilbeaux and Pierre Guilbeaux; and five sisters, Edna G. Miller, Vivian Guilbeaux, Amilda G. Benoit and two infant sisters, Marie Rose Guilbeaux and Noella Guilbeaux.

Melancon Funeral Home, Evangeline Memorial Gardens Chapel, 4117 N. University Ave., Carencro, (337) 896-3232, is in charge of arrangements.
