Edith M Beatty, 94, of Logansport, passed away on Tuesday, June 23, 2020, surrounded by her family, at Woodbridge Health Campus.

Born on October 27, 1925 in Frankfort, she was the daughter of the late Daniel Maynard and Alzena Clare (Goff) Phillippe.

A graduate of Frankfort High School, Edith continued her education and graduated from Ball State Teacher's College. Her first job brought her to Tipton Elementary in Logansport in 1947. Edith met the love of her life, James D. "Jim" Beatty, at a Sunday School party at the Broadway Methodist Church. Her high heels and long hair caught his eye and he knew he was going to marry that girl. The couple were united in marriage on her 25th birthday, October 27, 1950, in Mulberry, IN, so as Jim would often quip, "He could have cake and Edith, too." The couple had been married nearly 52 years when Jim passed away on September 8, 2002.

Edith enjoyed a 38-year career with the Logansport Community School Corporation teaching various grades but mainly 3rd and 4th grade at Tipton and Franklin Elementary Schools.

At the time of her death, Edith was the oldest and much-loved member of the First United Methodist Church. She was active in the Joy Circle and the Metholite Sunday School Class. She was an avid reader and enjoyed Christian books.

Edith had a very compassionate card ministry and spent many hours making her handmade cards to send on every occasion. Each card was a treasure. Her baking skills were exceptional as her family and friends will attest. Edith and Jim spent years camping and traveling extensively. The armchair vacation planning began in the winter with the trusty Rand-McNally road map and the Woodall Campground directory. They were members of the National Camping and Hiking Association. Even at age 94, Edith stayed young and kept up with everyone on Facebook.

Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law; one daughter and son-in-law; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; one brother; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews and their families.

In addition to her parents and husband, Edith was preceded in death by her son, David Beatty; and five siblings - Caroline Claudy, Charles Phillipe, William Phillipe, Phyllis Clear and Marytha Clear.

A funeral service celebrating Edith's life will be held at 11 AM on Monday, June 29, 2020 in the First United Methodist Church, 8th and East Broadway, with Rev. Tim McKaig officiating. Friends will be received from 10 AM until the time of the service on Monday. Entombment will follow in the Ever-Rest Memorial Park Mausoleum.
