Death of Lewis W. Barnes.
Lewis Wellington Barnes died at his home in the northern part of this town on Tuesday of this week. Mr. Barnes was very ill with fever for several weeks, but finally recovered so he was able to be out, but his health did not seem to be entirely restored and he gradually failed until his death.

Mr. Barnes was born in what is now the town of Triangle, (then a part of Lisle) May 4th, 1817. On January 21st, 1840 he married Miss Julia Simmons. Eleven years later his wife died, leaving one daughter, Miss Eva J. Barnes, now of Millerton, Dutchess county. A short time before the death of his wife Mr. Barnes removed to Marathon. On Sept. 1st, 1852, he united in marriage with Miss Anna Newell, of Cairo, Greene county, who survives him and is the mother of his son, Charles H. Barnes, with whom he lived at the time of his death. Mrs. Barnes has been an invalid and nearly helpless for a number of years.

In 1865 the family removed to this town and purchased of Henry Winship the farm on which they have resided since that time. For several years before moving here Mr. Barnes was well known throughout this part of the state, as he traveled extensively as agent for a stove manufactory. He drove about the country and delivered the stoves with a team. He was a very hard working man and a kind and [?]ing neighbor. He had been a member of the Congregational church of the village since 1874. The funeral took place from the residence, Thursday after noon, the service being conducted by Rev. J. S. Ellsworth.
