Luther was son of Samuel Lee Charles and Margaret C. DeAtley.
He married on March 4, 1908, Kenton, Kentucky, to Rebecca Dora Treftz, later Mrs. William Alfred Grooms.
Luther appears in the 1910 through 1930 census of Dayton, Ohio, but without Dora. He and his son Denver were lodging together at the time of the 1930 census. Luther was a salesman in a store.
