Phinehas was born 26 Oct 1747 in Tolland, CT, the son of Joseph and Sarah (Stearns) Hatch. In 1774 he went with his parents to Alstead, NH. Phinehas was a farmer and according to the Hatch family history "was very corpulent weighing, at one time, over 300 pounds." He married first in Tolland, CT to Tryphena Delano. Phinehas and Tryphena had children : Chloe (b.31 Jan 1776; d. 25 Apr 1785), Ira (b. 1 Mar 1777). Tryphena died in Alstead in 1777. Phinehas married a second time to Keturah Brown on 28 Feb 1782. Phinehas and Keturah Brown had children: Tryphena (1784-861), Abigail (b. 18 Nov 1785; d. 4 Oct 1786), Persis (b. 25 Sep 1787; d. 21 Apr 1803), and Dan (b. 18 Jul 1792; d. 26 Feb 1867).
