Mrs. Bessie Cowles
Williamsburg - Mrs. Bessie Clay Cowles, 81, of Toano, died Wednesday in a Newport News hospital after a long illness.
She was the widow of Wilson H. Cowles.
Mrs. Cowles was a member of the Mount Vernon Methodist Church.
Survivors include two sons, Edward G. Cowles of Newport News and Frank L. Cowles of Toano; one daughter, Mrs. Marion C. Jennings of Toano; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday in the Olive Branch Christian Church by the Rev. Robert Seward, pastor, assisted by the Rev. Norwood P. Montgomery, pastor of the Mount Vernon Methodist Church.
Pallbearers will be David Ware, Kemper Taylor, Wesley Sheldon, J. B. Cowles, Reid Warren and Lewis Clay.
Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be at Bucktrout Funeral Home.
