On June 15 1904 Arthur (6) of 95 2nd Ave., boarded the General Slocum with his parents Bernard (38) and Valesca (29), and his brothers: Grover (13), Walter (10), and Edgar (4). But shortly after departing, the ship caught fire which spread quickly.
Arthur survived and was treated at Lincoln Hospital with a burned head. His older brothers Grover and Walter survived to, but his mother Valesca and little brother Edgar were killed, and his father Bernard survived but died of his injuries 8 days later.
After the fire Arthur and his remaining brothers with taken in by their maternal grandmother Johanna Hager. He worked as a jeweler. He married Gertrude Eschrich on April 27, 1918, and had two children:

He was still alive in 1930.
