Howard R. "Shorty" Ashworth, 98, Quinter, died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2007, at Gove County Medical Center Long Term Care, Quinter.

He was born Aug. 14, 1909 in Franklin County, Va., to George Emmitt and Dorinda (Bowman) Ashworth. He attended schools in Franklin County, Va. and automotive repair schools in Baltimore, Md., Nashville, Tenn., and Los Angeles.

He married Wilma "Pearl" (Doxon) Ashworth on April 20, 1941, in Yuma, Ariz. She preceded him in death on March 8, 1996. He was a auto mechanic, prior to retirement in 1974. He was a U.S. Army veteran.

Survivors include two daughters, Janis Millwee, Quinter, and Judith Abbey, San Antonio; two brothers, Albert Ashworth and George Ashworth; four sisters, Nellie Soyars, Mary Beeghly, Velma Meador and Sevilla Bower; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
