By 1910 Sherry was working as a clerk for the Fowler Packing Company. He did this for a few years, but by 1914 he had gone into business with his father, opening the Lea & Son grocery store. It must not have gone well because by 1917 Sherry had moved to Joplin, Missouri and was working as foreman for the Willson Packing Company. From 1920 through 1935 he was working as a wholesale meats salesman for a meat packing company.
Sherry married Marie Ann Collins in October 1919 and they had two daughters, Jacqueline Lou and Sherry Marie. Sometime after 1930, Sherry and his wife divorced. By 1940 Sherry was living in River, Oklahoma, working as a butcher. Sherry was still working as a butcher in 1942, living in Corpus Christi, Texas. By 1948 he was living in Barnsdall, Oklahoma, but by 1955 he was in Broken Bow, Oklahoma.
Sherry died from some type of lung disease.

Sherry E. Lea of St. Louis is in town the guest of his grandfather, A. T. Lea. Mr. Lea will return to St. Louis in a day or two and from there will start on an overland trip through the southern states. He in company with a friend wll travel cowboy fashion during the most of the winter months. They each ave an excellent riding horse and a train of a half dozen burros which will be used as pack animals. The trip is taken in the hope it will benefit the health of Mr. Lea who for the past few weeks has been doing clerical work for the Fowler Packing Company of St. Louis.
