Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Sunday, January 26, 2020 at Zion United Methodist Church 1521 Old Fish Road, Monroe, NC 28110. Burial with Military Honors to follow in the church cemetery.
Bengie was proud to serve his country in the United States Army. He was a tool grinder for Perfecting Service & Carnes-Miller Gear Company until he retired after 42 years of service. He also was a huge support to his wife who owned and operated the Union County franchise of H&R Block from 1971 thru 2000, their son Bryan now owns and operates the family business. Bengie was a very active and devoted member of Zion Methodist Church where he served in many different capacities. He was a volunteer firefighter with the town of Fairview, and known as “Mr.Fixit” to his community. Bengie enjoyed fishing, working in his shop and was an avid gardener. He was dearly loved by his family, church and community and will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Bengie is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Virginia Kindley Braswell, son Bryan Braswell of Monroe, two daughters; Vada Tucker (David) of Waxhaw and Melia Haigler (Sidney) of Monroe, two brothers; Jack Braswell (Peggy) and Russell Braswell (Linda) two sisters; Linda Honeycutt and Becky Williams (Ronald) all of Monroe, five grandchildren; Brandon Braswell, Carlan Santana, Dylan Tucker, Kirby Haigler and Karis Haigler, four step grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends and relative from 5:00pm until 7:00pm Saturday, January 25, 2020 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Ave, Monroe, NC 28112.
The family would like to especially thank “Home Instead” for their support and care.
