Hon. James Seddon
Secty. of War

My son, Norborne F. Thompson, is anxious to get the appointment of Drill Master in the camp of instruction at Petersburg or Richmond. He has been for some time a cadet at the Virginia Military Institute and is now anxious to serve his country in the army. I hope it will be your pleasure to appoint him to this place for I feel he will be active and faithful in the discharge of his duties.

Respectfully,
Your obedient servant,

Wm. F. Thompson
