Samuel was a bricklayer and a mason and he helped build most of the brick buildings in this area.
Samuel was the son of Garrett Durling (1790-1855) and his wife Cathrine Gilbert (1788-1850). His wife was Mary P Harding During (1836-1897) daughter of Thomas Harding (1807-1883) and wife, Nancy Rosengrant Harding born 1811.

They were the parents of at least two children:
Nancy Jane Durling who died in Tunkhannock.
Theodore "Willard" Durling born in Tunkhannock 06 Dec 1861 died 26 Apr 1925 also in Tunkhannock, PA (interred in Sunnyside Cem).
