His father was Alexander Pope II (1818-72) a lawyer, solicitor general of the northern circuit of Georgia and a member of the Georgia Senate, 1853-57. He was nominated again to the senate but decided to move to Texas with his sister Martha Elizabeth and her husband and father-in-law, Maj. Henry Lane. He was a member of the secession convention of Texas. He married (1) in 1840, Sarah Willie (1825-64). Their seven children were James Willie (1841-1908), Louisa Alexander (1843-1940), Dr. John Hunter, III (1845-1915), Judge William Henry, III (1847-1913), Alexander, III (1854-89), Asa Willie (1858-) and Dr. Irvin Pope (1862-1935). After the death of his wife, Alexander Pope married (2) in 1871, Beatrice Hill, daughter of Edward Young (1805-60) and Anna Powell Dawson Hill (1810-78).

Dr. John Hunter Pope III (1845-1915) was a physician and president of the Texas Medical Association. He served in the Civil War (CSA). He married (1) Harriet Johnson Starr (1855-90), and (2) Mary Willie (1860-1942). A son was John Hunter Pope (1890).
Judge William Henry Pope III (1847-1913)(UVa c1867) lived in Marshall, Tex. and later moved to Ft. Worth. He served in the Civil War (CSA) and the Texas Senate, 1882-92. He married in 1872, Fannie Stedman (1852-1929), daughter of Col. William Stedman, an attorney general of Texas. Their four children were William Henry, IV; Eva (1872-1935) who married Claude D. Lancaster, of Marshall; Clara Willie (1873-1955) who married William Harrell, of Austin, Tx.; and Caroline “Lina” Pope (1877-1920) who married R.H. Russell, of Los Angeles.
