LAURINBURG — Mrs. Sylvia Austin Witmore, 78, of Laurinburg passed away on Thursday, Jan. 11, 2018.

Sylvia was a daughter of the late Lorenzo Glen Austin and Beulah Hendricks Austin born May 2, 1939 in Union County. She was the loving and devoted wife of 40 years to the late Charles L "CL" Witmore, Jr. She worked many years in the health industry as an Administrative Assistant with Home Health of Scotland County and later with Health Keepers.

She served as a longtime faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Laurinburg. She also served in her community as a member of the Hamlet V.F.W. Post 50 and The Pilot Club of Laurinburg. Sylvia was a talented writer and author of 11 books. Above all, she loved her family and truly enjoyed sharing her time with each of them.

Sylvia is survived by her sons, Charles "Chuck" L Witmore, III and wife, Sirena Horne Witmore of Laurinburg; Christopher Lorne Witmore and wife Elizabeth Gremillion Witmore of Lubbock, Texas; Kevin Lee Witmore and wife Marie-Louise Witmore of Pembroke; brothers, Lorenzo Glen Austin, Jr., Jerry Lynn Austin; sisters, Diane Austin Jarrell, Margaret Austin Glynn and Karen Austin Rassette; mother-in- law, Katie Bullard Witmore and sister-in- law, Sally Witmore Gardner (David) of Laurinburg; grandchildren, Donovan Stroud, Charles L Witmore, IV, Sherry Lee Witmore, Claire-Louise Witmore, Lance Keaton Witmore, Emma Kate Witmore, Isabella Marie Witmore, Kellen Broder Witmore, Asher Lee Witmore, Elias Austin Witmore, Liam Jamison Witmore. She is also survived by her many nieces, nephews, loving family and friends.
