Dr. Fehland formerly chief of staff of St. Mary's hospital, Wausau, and chief of surgery at the time of his death, had been ill for two years.
He was born May 23, 1899, in Merrill to Herman and Anna Lehrke Fehland. He was married to Edith Walsh in Merrill in 1926.
Dr. Fehland practiced medicine in Wausau since 1930, after spending five years at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minn., on a fellowship. He was a graduate of the University of Wisconsin, and of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine.
Dr. Fehland was a member of the American Medical Association; the State Medical Society; Marathon County Medical Society; a fellow of the American College of Surgeons; a vice regent of the International College of Surgeons, and was certified by the American Board of Surgery.
He was a member of the Wausau Chamber of Commerce, the Wausau Club, and the Elks Lodge of Wausau.
Surviving are his widow, Edith; a daughter, Mrs. Eugene (Susan) Lamer, Tomahawk; two sisters, Mrs. W. E. Zelisch, and Mrs. E. W. Ehlert, both of Minneapolis, and two granddaughters.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
There will be no visitation hours at the funeral home. The family has asked that flowers be omitted and expressed a desire instead for memorials for heart or emphysema research.
