81, of Carmel, IN, passed away on August 18, 2016. He was born in Washington DC on December 25, 1934 to the late, Chester Davis Sr. and Maurisolete English. He spent his growing up years in Perry, MO, graduating Perry High School in 1952. He studied at the University of Missouri graduating in 1957 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He then attended George Washington University earning his law degree in 1960.

He then joined the firm of Barnes, Kisselle, Raisch and Choate in Detroit, MI where he practiced patent law, soon becoming a partner. He retired from his firm in 1997 after 37 years. He also served on the faculty of Detroit College of Law for over two decades. In 1997, he relocated to Indianapolis and joined Ice Miller as a Patent Law Mentor. He retired in 2003.

He was an avid collector and historian of all things Mark Twain and served on the Board of the Mark Twain Research Foundation. He enjoyed antiquing, gardening, gourmet cooking and Indy Car racing. In his recent years, he was a giant fan of westerns and the Golf Channel. He was known by his family and friends to be committed, loyal, hardworking, forever a researcher and lover of a good martini.

Chet is survived by his loving wife, Barbara of Carmel, IN; daughter, Paige (Joe) Koch of Park City, UT; daughter Tamma (Dale) DeHart of Camarillo, CA; son Dan (Cathy) Davis of Saginaw, MI; step daughter Jill (Greg) of Zionsville, IN grandchildren, Matt (Lisa) Koch, Harley (Chris) Gerard, Laura (Fritz) Konker; Isaac DeHart; Scott, Brynn & Jack Davis; step-grandchildren Emma and Owen McRoberts; seven great-grandchildren. Sister Carolynn Caneer of Golden, CO, previously deceased.

Friends and family are invited to a visitation on Friday, August 26, 2016, from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. at Zionsville Presbyterian Church, 4775 West 116th Street, Zionsville, IN. A private memorial service for the family will follow.
