SOUTH BERWICK, Maine ; David F. Baker, 64, of Thurrell Road, died peacefully on Wednesday, March 25, 2009 at his home, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous two-year battle with cancer.

Born Sept. 2, 1944 in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late Harvey and Frances (Wyman) Baker. He attended Berwick Academy and received his diploma from Noble High School.

David lived in South Berwick most of his life. He worked for many years at Seabrook station before retiring in 2005 from Hussey Seating Company after 18 years of service.

David was a member of the Yorkshire Lodge and the Maine Shriners.

He had a great passion for the outdoors, including hunting, fishing and spending time at his camp in Maine with his family. He also enjoyed gardening, planting vegetables and flowers, which he delighted in sharing with others. David had a green thumb. He nurtured the land and never took from it without giving back in return. He was the same way with people.

His love for his grandchildren was the most important part of his life, whether it be sporting events, fishing, gardening, walks or just being with them, it meant the most to him.

He will be sadly missed by his family, friends and special companion "Brody."

He is survived by: Mary, his wife of 41 years; three sons, Shaun P. and his wife Colleen of South Berwick, James A. and his wife Sherry of Berwick, Scott E. and his wife Lisa of South Berwick; three brothers, Harvey Baker of Las Vegas, Nev., Edward Baker of Lebanon and Scott Baker of Huntersville, N.C.; one stepsister, Sharon Nye of Middleton, N.H.; six grandchildren, Garron, Jennifer, Katelyn, Cameron, Alex and Sara; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Predeceasing David was a brother, Richard Baker of Oklahoma.

A special thank you to Dr. Jonathon Eneman and his staff as well as the staff at Wentworth Homecare and Hospice for all their support and care.

Calling hours will be Monday March 30, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. at McIntire McCooey Funeral Home, 301 Main St., South Berwick. The following day a memorial service will be at the Links golf course on Route 4 in South Berwick at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Donna Lee Muise officiating.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Norris Cotton Cancer Center, 1 Medical Drive Lebanon, NH 03756 or to Wentworth Homecare and Hospice, 113 New Rochester Road Dover, NH 03820.
