Visitation for Maude Stackhouse will be held at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Friday, August 24, 2007 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park on Saturday morning, August 25, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. Maude was born August 26, 1912 in Brattleboro, Vermont and she passed away August 17, 2007 in Bakersfield, California. She is preceded in death by her husband, Scott Stackhouse; her parents, Ivan and Helena Smith and her sister, Loretta Thompson. She is survived by her daughter, Loreen Stephens; brother and sister-in-law, Wesley and Doris Smith; granddaughter, Melinda Horst and husband Mike; grandson, Scott Stephens and wife Lynn; great grandchildren, Joshua and wife Frances, Seth and wife Tawanna, Daniel, Amorie, Kaysee and Lacsee; great great grandchildren, Ryan, Nicholas, Damien and Cayden; one nephews and six nieces. Maude taught school for 30 years and 26 of those years teaching special education for the State of Connecticut. Her mind was sharp as a tack at 94 and kept it going doing crosswords. She loved stage shows, plays and movies. She did lots of sewing, knitting, crocheting and crafts for her family and friends. Mother was a very quiet, loving and caring person. She loved her family and friends. On March 7, 2007, Hoffmann, Build-A-Bear and Channel 17 did a story on Mother and her collection of 581 stuffed bears. She loved her bears and said "they always loved you; just the way you are". Southwest Voice also did an article about the teddy bear lady. We wish to thank Hoffmann Hospice for all the love and care you have showed. Thank you also to our church and dear friends for everything. Happy 95th Mom on August 26, 2007. We love and miss you.
