J.T. was born on April 17, 1922 in Salado, Texas to L.O. & Minnie Fretwell who preceded him in death. Three brothers and many nieces and nephews also preceded him in death.
J.T. lived in Austin most of his life. He became a Christian and was baptized at an early age and faithfully attended Onion Creek Baptist Church. He served at Conservative Civil Engineer Camp for 2 years in Bartlett before he was drafted and served in the U. S. Army. He was a WWII Veteran serving in the Army 130th 33rd Infantry Division from Oct. 3, 1942 to Nov. 11, 1945. He served 1 year in Hawaii, 6 months in the Philippines, 9 months in New Guinnea, 6 months in Ft. Louis, Washington, 3 months in California, the Mojave Dessert, 3 months in Japan. J.T. was wounded in Luzon, The Philippines and received a Purple Heart Medal of Honor. He was a lifetime member of the VFW & Purple Heart Club. He retired from Bergstrom Air Force Base after 30 years in Transportation.
J.T. celebrated 60 years of marriage to Charlsie Frances Blackwell Fretwell on May 3, 2007.
Survivors include his wife Charlsie Frances Fretwell; 2 sons, John Fretwell & wife Elaine of Midland, TX and Jimmie Fretwell & Nancy Fretwell of Austin, TX; 2 daughters, Jeanette Gifford & husband Brice of Cedar Creek, TX and Judy Fretwell & Don Richardson of Cedar Creek, TX; one brother, Charles Fretwell of Round Rock, TX; eight grandchildren, Janet & Eric Lopez, David & Claudia Fretwell, Bryan & Kristy Gifford, Scotty & Adriane Gifford, Jay & Jamie Fretwell, Bradley & Erika Cahoon, Nina Brooks & Deanna Fretwell; seven great grandchildren; several nieces & nephews; and expecting two more great grandchildren

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 22, 2007 at Harrell Funeral Home, Austin, TX.
Funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Onion Creek Baptist Church. Interment will be at 2:15 p.m., Thursday, August 23, 2007 at Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery, San Antonio, TX.
