Julian Caroll Burton, Sr., 88, passed away on Monday, June 1, 2020 at his home. He was born in Caswell County on December 7, 1931 to the late Lester Hassell Burton and Mary Elizabeth Bradsher Burton.

In the past, Julian was retired from Western Electric where he was the supervisor of the machine shop. He was also a longtime member of Andrews Memorial Baptist Church where he served as a trustee. He also served in the US Marine Corps. He entered the Marines in 1950 at age 18; trained at Paris Island, S.C. and sent to Japan, then Korea. He served as Tank Commander near Seoul, Korea. His hobbies included fishing and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Betty Jean Kirkman Burton; sister: Beatrice Hornaday; many adoptive grandchildren and great grandchildren including Faye and Barry Matherly and their three children: Hannah, Jason and Nathan; and numerous loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Julian Caroll Burton, Jr., parents, sister, Katherine Burton and brothers: Lester Burton and Floyd Burton.

The funeral service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, June 6, 2020 at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church with Rev. Brandon Rause, Rev. William Secreast, Rev. Randy Hobbs and Dr. Tommy Willis officiating and with military honors. Interment will follow in Alamance Memorial Park cemetery.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020 at Andrews Memorial Baptist Church (301 West Elm St., Graham) from 4:00-7:00 PM according to restricted rules guided by the church staff.
