Mr. Miller, who died at age 42, was the brother of Judge Elijah Miller, father-in-law of celebrated American statesman William Seward. His remains were transferred here to join those of the Judge, their sister Clarinda, and other relatives in the Miller-Seward Family plot after Fort Hill Cemetery opened in 1851. Both Miller's marble headstone and the footstone bearing his initials are remarkably well-preserved examples of the Federal style.
