Ken was an avid sports fan having played baseball through his late teens and signing a minor league contract with the Baltimore Orioles organization. When his children were young he was very active with the Boys Club in St. Charles. His was the house where neighborhood kids came to play. He had a basketball goal set up in the front yard, encouraged baseball games or football games and would ice down the driveway each winter so the kids could play ice hockey. He seldom missed a televised St. Louis Cardinals game and never missed a televised Dallas Cowboys game.
Ken hunted in his younger days but fished to within two months of his death. He literally loved to fish. After his retirement from General Motors, a job that he was proud of and where he made lifelong friends, every spring would be a 4 to 6 week camping trip to Tecumseh, MO near where he was raised. That was where Ken kept in touch with childhood friends and their families. Days were filled with early morning fishing, escaping from the mid-day heat, late afternoon fishing and evenings around a campfire. He loved a good fish fry surrounded by family and friends.
Perhaps the only thing Ken loved more than those fish fries was his family. He and Mary were more than companions, they were best friends. He loved his children, showed it often, and they knew it. The world lost a good man today.
A Celebration of Life (and one last Fish Fry) will be held this coming Friday, July 24, beginning at 4:00 in the afternoon. It will be held at the Loyal Order of Moose, 2705 Veteran’s Memorial Parkway, St. Charles, MO 63303”
