He was born in New York City on May 17, 1940 to Harold and Eileen Connolly who preceded him in death. He is survived by a brother, Desmond Connolly and his wife, Betty, along with two nephews, Desmond K. and Michael of Buzzards Bay, MA.
Don served in the US Navy for four years, as an electrician on the aircraft carriers USS Coral Sea in Japan and USS Lexington in Florida. After his four-year tour in the Navy, he spent several years as a merchant marine, sailing on bulk carriers on the Great Lakes. He established an insurance agency in the Sunland area of San Fernando Valley, CA.
Don came out to the Panamint Valley in the early 1980s, where he was well known for his business ventures. Don sold mining claims, mined up in Jail Canyon and was the caretaker of Ballarat ghost town, where he operated the store from 1991 through 1995.
