MARESCA, James C. 95, known affectionately as "Smiley" or "Sarge" formerly of Jersey City died on Saturday 8/18/07.
Husband of the late Geraldine (nee Corbutt). Father of James, Frank, Gerard, Susan Ganley and Geralynn Wilson. Brother of Rachel Slezak and Anna Von Wyck. Also survived by six Grandchildren and two Great-Grandchildren. James was one of sixteen children.
He served with great courage in WW II in the Pacific Theater where he was wounded. He received both the Purple Heart and Bronze Star while performing his duties. He was a Staff Sargeant in the 77th Division of the 306th Infantry.
Every year, along with his twelve Brothers, he would march in the Holy Name Parade as "The Marching Maresca's". He was a postal employee, starting as a letter carrier and rising to postal supervisor of the Central Avenue branch in Jersey City.
He belonged to many Clubs and Organizations throughout his life including the Holy Name Society of St. Paul of the Cross; The 77th Division Assoc. in New York City; VFW and Fisk Post of Jersey City; and the Old Guard of Rutherford, NJ.
Funeral from the Fallon Funeral Home, 157 Bowers St. Jersey City, NJ on Wednesday, at 9 AM. Funeral Mass St. Paul of the Cross RC Church 10 AM. Interment Holy Cross Cemetery, North Arlington, NJ. Visitation Hours: Mon and Tues: 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Funeral Home parking lot on Summit Avenue between Bowers St. and Charles St.
