Russell Merlin Bateman Shields 1948 ~ 2013 RUSSELL MERLIN BATEMAN SHIELDS, our beloved Brother, Father, Grandfather and uncle, passed away peacefully on Thursday July 11, 2013, in Salt Lake City. He was born to Russell Thompson Bateman and Gladys Eliza Dowdle Bateman on August 4, 1948 in Paris, Idaho. Merlin was later adopted by Grant Lynn Shields when Gladys remarried. Merlin served his country in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1971. Merlin is survived by his children, Merlin Brent Shields and Wendy Marie Shields, step-children, Janet Deniro, Daniel Watson and Joseph Watson, 19 grandchildren, his Sisters Ruth Bateman, June Hatch, Elizabeth Kay Butler, Laura Jane Shields, his brother, William Mark Shields and step-brother Gary Shields. Merlin's loving and caring nature touched all our hearts. He will be missed. Graveside services and Interment Bloomington Cemetery, Bloomington, Idaho (Bear Lake)
