Arthur "Mac" McElwain of Texarkana, Texas passed away May 19, 2014. He was born in Riveria, Texas on August 30th, 1923 and grew up and spent most of his lifetime in Harlingen, Texas. He retired from the Department of Public Safety Highway Patrol after 26 ½ years. He also served 5 years in WWII in the Submarine Division.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Ada McElwain of Harlingen; sisters, Billie McElwain of Harlingen, Elnora Ridgdill of Hope, Arkansas and Patricia "Annie" Pace of Huntsville, Alabama.; son, Arthur Dale McElwain of Smithville, Texas; and a grandson, Colby Carrell of Los Fresnos, Texas.

Survivors include his wife Barbara of Texarkana, Texas; daughters, Pelma Jean (Buddy) Carrell of Los Fresnos, Texas and Jackie (Charles) Lowery of Hot Spring Village, AR; sisters, Wanda Edwards of San Antonio, Texas and Betty Lou McAlister of Harlingen, Texas; nine grandchildren and ten great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Friday, May 23rd from 5:00 PM to 7:00 P.M. at Buck Ashcraft Funeral Home.

Graveside services will be held Saturday, May 24th, at 1:00 P.M., at Mont Meta Memorial Park in San Benito.
