Joyce A. Newlin, 81, of 1500 W. Daytona Drive, Peoria, died Friday, Aug. 17, 2007, at Proctor Hospital in Peoria.

She was born Feb. 4, 1926, in Peoria, Ill., to Chris D. and Irene (Frank) Allenbach. She married Jackson P. Newlin on Aug. 22, 1947. He survives at Lutheran Hillside Village.

She also is survived by a daughter, Jean Newlin-Schnake of Coralville, Iowa; a son, Timothy J. (Lori) Newlin of Peoria; and a sister, Sandy (Mrs. William) Defenbaugh of Peoria.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Jeanne Nelson.

She worked at Jumer's in Peoria as the gift shop manager and also worked at the Main Street Flower Shop for many years.

She graduated from the University of Arizona; and was a membrer of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority in college; the Junior League of Peoria, where she served as vice president and was volunteer of the year in 1960.

Joyce will be remembered for her more than 30-year involvement with the Peoria Cursillo movement and prison ministry, as well as her teaching Bible study classes for many years.

She enjoyed playing golf, playing bridge, and traveling.

Interment will be in Mason City Cemetery in Mason City.
