As a proud conservative, he was a strong advocate for education encouraging learning for himself and others. He had an exceptional musical talent playing many instruments by ear including the piano, guitar, steel guitar and was learning the fiddle at the age of 85. He used his musical talent to play at church events and in the Dallas Missions for the homeless.
He was survived by his wife of 44 years, Barbara Crawford Cross of Grapevine, Texas, son and daughter in-law, Jay and Debbie Cross of Southlake, Texas, son and daughter in-law, Chad and Lynee’ Cross also of Southlake, Texas, daughter Jennifer Cross of Dallas, Texas, sister, Sally Bates of Austin, Texas, sister and brother-law, Florine and John Jayroe of Carrollton, Texas and sister and brother-law Emma and Albert Petty of Irving, Texas. He will also be missed by his 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He will be laid to rest at Crown Hill Memorial Park in Dallas next to his parents. A memorial service will be held at White Chapel Methodist Church in Southlake, Texas, in late June 2020 when permissible. The family would like to extend their deep appreciation and gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and health care professionals who in this very difficult time cared for him.
