Married Dolores 18 Jul 1959.Billy Jack Ayres, age 79, a longtime resident of Copperas Cove passed away Monday, the seventh day of November, two thousand and eleven in a Killeen hospital.
Billy Jack was born the fourteenth day of September, nineteen hundred and thirty two in Gatesville, Texas to Willie Edward Ayres and Laura (Graham) Ayres.
He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove where he was currently serving as the Chairman of the Congregation, Chairman of the Men's Club and over the years has served in many other capacities as need to help out the congregation.
He attended and received his Master's Degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos. After graduation, he began what he enjoyed which was teaching and working in the education field. In 1992, after thirty seven years with Copperas Cove Independent School District, he retired as Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum. After retirement, he remained active in education by serving one term on the Copperas Cove Independent School District Board.
After retirement, he spent his time working in his yard, gardening, traveling, cooking, and taking afternoon naps. He enjoyed old friends and meeting new ones. Most of all, he had a sincere love for his family and enjoyed spending time with them.
Billy Jack was preceded in death by his parents, a brother and four sisters.
He is survived by his loving wife of fifty two years, Dolores Ayres of Copperas Cove; a son, Michael Ayres and his wife Tracey of Copperas Cove; two daughters, Melanie Dunn, MD and her husband David of Nashville, TN and Marsha Fauver and her husband Scott of Cypress, TX; six grandchildren, Christopher, Johnathon, Alex, Brooke, Courtney and Brandon; a brother, Jerry Ayres of The Grove and a sister, Marjorie Bone of Stephenville.
The Ayres family will receive guests for a time of visitation from six o'clock in the evening until eight o'clock in the evening on Friday, the eleventh day of November at Crawford-Bowers Funeral Home in Copperas Cove. Funeral services will be at Ten o'clock in the morning Saturday, the twelfth day of November at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Copperas Cove with Pastor Robert Wagner officiating. Interment services will follow in Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
Serving as pallbearers will be Jerry Gayle Ayres, Cloyd Bryant, Art Dillon, Max Heiner, Wade Heiner and Tommy Tippit. Honorary pallbearers will be Christopher Ayres, Johnathon Ayres, Alex Dunn, Brooke Fauver, Courtney Dunn and Brandon Fauver.
In place of usual remembrances, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to Immanuel Lutheran Church in Memory of Mr. Billy Jack Ayres, 922 Lutheran Church Road, Copperas Cove, Texas, 76522 or to the charity of your choice.
