In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Brenda Ferguson Barnes; three sons, Harvel Lee Barnes Jr., James William Barnes, and Sterlin Gerrod Barnes; three brothers, Don Barnes, Rev. Gene Barnes, and Charlie Barnes; one sister, Katrina “Dean” Hooper; two grandchildren, Olacey Barnes and Antonio Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Gerrod Barnes, Jr. and Janiya Barnes.
Mr. Barnes formerly served as a faithful Deacon at Peoples Tabernacle Church and was the Founder/ President of Miracles for Christ Men’s Choir. He was currently a member Chesterfield Church and Faith Tabernacle. Harvel was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend.
He was a true patriarch for the Barnes family and his West End community, he will be dearly missed by many.
Those left to cherish his memory include two sons, Richard Edward Barnes and wife Cassandra of Hampton, GA and Ronald “Nate” Barnes of Lenoir; two daughters, Debra Barnes and Elder Carol Barnes both of Lenoir; three brothers, Carl Barnes of Lenoir, Willard Bayoi Barnes and wife Brenda of Milwaukee, WI, and Sgt 1st Garrie Barnes and wife Okhui of Fredericksburg, VA; two sisters, Louella Dula of Lenoir and Julietta Harshaw of Memphis, TN; sixteen grandchildren and twenty-four great-grandchildren.
