I am pretty sure this is the grave of Robert Washington Berryman, but I can’t prove it. The monument reads Robert Benyman instead of Berryman. I think someone misspelled his name because the two r’s written in cursive looks like a n. Robert’s wife Sarah states in her application for a widows pension that Robert entered service in the confederate army on the first of Oct, 1864 and died of a fever on the first of nov, 1864. He was in the army for only a month and would be considered a conscript. She says he died at the Academy for the blind, which was turned into a hospital during the war. Soldiers who died there were buried at Rose Hill.
